Originally the a stronghold for acquiring finished independent films, the Harvey and Bob Weinstein turned their mid-sized production company into a critical and commercial powerhouse. Focusing on movies that many of the other studios tend to avoid, Miramax has been a jumping-off point for a number of great film artists, throughout the 90's and into today. MGM/UA and Miramax are splitting domestic rights and sharing all revenues on eight titles. Miramax has access to MGM's library; MGM benefits from Miramax's marketing expertise. Signed a multiyear agreement with animation company Wild Brain to co-finance and co-produce CGI-animated features. Each party will provide 50% of the financing; Miramax/Dimension will distribute worldwide. Deal also allows for Wild Brain's direct-to-video productions to be distributed by the studios (9/04).
