4 Reader Reaction Comments Only FAQ [+]
What is a Reaction Pack?
A Reaction Pack is a collection of multiple coverages done by several analysts on one screenplay that is submitted for coverage. It has been created in order to give the writer insight into the different feedback they are likely to receive from the industry.
How is a Comments Only Reaction Pack different from a Regular Reaction Pack?
A Comments-Only Reaction Pack does not include the synopsis section in each of the coverages you receive. Therefore, if you purchase a Comments Only Reaction Pack, you will receive coverage reports made of a logline, a comments section, and a shark grid, but not a synopsis.
Why should I get a synopsis?
It is important that you and the analyst both understand the story you are trying to tell. If critical story points are missed, are confusing or ineffective, the synopsis section of the coverage report will let you know.
Why would I want a Reaction Pack?
Part of the challenge of releasing a script into the marketplace is having it pass under many sets of eyes, each with its own unique sensibilities. This means that your material has to make the grade with not only one industry analyst, but with many of them. While one may respond to a script's sensibility, it may not strike a chord with another. Because reading is a subjective task, you fall victim to each analyst's unique preferences, tastes, and sensibilities, and, as we all know, it's not easy pleasing everyone.
What can a Reaction Pack teach me?
Whether or not you agree with the coverage you receive, it is important that you are aware of what industry professionals think of your work. This is the most important prep work you can do prior to going out with the script: Learn how your work is being received, and adjust it accordingly. Does that mean that if you get critical coverage you should change your script accordingly? Not necessarily. But it's your responsibility to be aware of the weaknesses that professionals find in your script, and be able to defend your work.
If your analysts are so professional, why do I need the opinion of more than one?
Our large reader staff is one of our strongest benefits: By giving your script out to numerous analysts, we allow you to asses how multiple industry readers rank your material. Of course, some will like your work more than others. That goes without saying. But when your story is correctly interpreted by all, and you get unified marks on such things as dialogue, storyline, and characterization, then you know you've got something.
What if each of the coverages I receive is different?
The reality is that, no matter how strong the material, you will likely see differences in each of your coverage. Though you may be lucky enough to have all analysts agree on such points as structure and executions, each analyst will probably find different problem areas in your script, depending on their own aversions and sensibilities. Does that mean that you should make changes according to all the coverages you received? Absolutely not. But it is important that you know what some of the feedback that you're getting is, and be prepared to defend the choices you've made in your script.
But can one of my analysts be wrong?
No. There is no right and wrong in script coverage. Coverage is a subjective task, heavily reliant upon the analyst’s taste and sensibilities. The professionals who are covering your screenplay are well regarded in the industry, and while they may not always agree, there is nothing "wrong" in their opinions.
If one analyst gives me a CONSIDER but the others don't, will you still scout my work?
Yes. One CONSIDER is all it takes for us to take a screenplay on for scouting. However, prior to shopping it to our representation and production contacts, we will review your script as well as the multiple coverages it received. If we feel that valid comments were made regarding how to develop the material further, we will discuss them with you, so that you can bring the script to the highest level possible before we introduce it to the market place.
What stage should my script be in when I submit it for a Reaction Pack?
Your script should be as close to ready for the industry as you can bring it to. First draft scripts, where structure, story line, and character still need major development work, should not be submitted for this service, but rather for a Regular Coverage, Story Notes, Ultimate Pack or Dev Pack service.
Can I select the analysts that I want doing my coverages?
Partially. Please feel free to select the analysts that you would like to have doing your Reaction Pack, and we will do our best to assign your script to them. However, due to availability, we can not guarantee that all of your requested analysts will be available, and therefore will take the freedom to substitute in suitable analysts as we see fit.
If I like one analyst's report in particular, can I buy a Coverage Consultation with them?
Yes. Any one of the analysts involved in your Reaction Pack will be happy to conduct a Coverage Consultation session with you. However, keep in mind that they will only be able to discuss their coverage with you. Nonetheless, if you have questions brought up by the other analysts, you may bring those up for discussion during your consultation session.
Can I submit three different screenplays for a single Reaction Pack?
No. The Reaction Pack is built to gauge the different reaction a single script draws from different industry professionals.
How about three different drafts of the same screenplay?
No. Again, the Reaction Pack is built to gauge the different reaction a single script gets from different industry professionals. Submitting three different drafts would defeat its purpose.
